Please see the following message from the district regarding online registration for the upcoming school year.

IMPORTANT – If you completed online registration prior to July 23rd, you will need to redo it.

We will not be holding in person registration this year.  If you have documents that need to be submitted, such as proof of birth, proof of address or immunization records, those can be emailed to marcie.barnhart@albany.k12.or.us.

Online Registration Information

Greater Albany Public Schools announces the following administrative changes and assignments for the 2020-21 school year. These changes are in addition to the previous administrative assignments announced on May 1. 

South Albany High School

• Kelly Bussard, principal at Oak Elementary for the last eight years, will be the new assistant principal at South Albany High School working with new principal John Hunter. 
• Assistant Principal Richard Shaw will be assigned to another position within the district. 

Clover Ridge/Meadow Ridge Elementary

• Elisa Stephens, principal for the former Clover Ridge Elementary, will be the new Lafayette Elementary principal.
• Christy Gill will be principal at the new Meadow Ridge Elementary. Ms. Gill has worked in K-12 education for more than 29 years – all in the state of Oregon – most recently serving as the assistant principal at Prairie Mountain School in the Bethel School District since 2018. She worked in the Bethel School District since 2013, previously as the district’s Administrator for Student Achievement and as a Literacy Teacher on Special Assignment. Before moving into administrative roles, Ms. Gill was an elementary reading specialist and began her career as a teacher. Ms. Gill holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Oregon and also completed an Initial Administrator Licensure program at the university in 2017.
• Sue Turner will be the assistant principal at the new Meadow Ridge Elementary. Ms. Turner has been with Greater Albany Public Schools since 2015, serving as a kindergarten teacher at Oak Elementary. Prior to coming to Albany, she was a teacher in the North Clackamas School District for 17 years. Ms. Turner has degrees from Azusa Pacific (bachelor’s) and Lesley University (master’s), a teaching certificate from Point Loma Nazarene University, and earned an Initial Administrator licence from George Fox University in 2014. 

Oak Elementary

• Kelly Bussard, principal at Oak Elementary for the last eight years, will be the new assistant principal at South Albany High School.
• Shanda Brown will be the new principal at Oak Elementary. Ms. Brown has worked in the Salem-Keizer School District nonconsecutively since 2004, holding positions as an elementary literacy teacher, an ESOL teacher, an instructional coach, and most recently as a Title IA program assistant since 2016. She took a break from Salem-Keizer to work for the Oregon Department of Education from 2012 to 2016 as an education specialist focusing on school improvement for priority and focus schools. Ms. Brown earned degrees from Western Oregon University (bachelor’s) and Willamette University (master’s) and completed the Leadership 2000+ program at Portland State.

Lafayette Elementary

• Principal Jodi Smith left the district to pursue a new opportunity in Arizona. 
• Elisa Stephens, principal for the former Clover Ridge Elementary, will be the new Lafayette Elementary principal.

The search for the next Albany Options School principal is ongoing.

Preparatoria South Albany High School

On July 10th, the district announced a change in Leadership for Meadow Ridge.

Christy Gill has been hired as principal at Meadow Ridge Elementary School replacing Elisa Stephens who has taken the position at Lafayette Elementary School. In addition, Sue Turner has been hired as assistant principal at Meadow Ridge.

Christy comes to Albany from the Bethel School District. She has worked in Bethel since 2006. Prior to that time, she taught in the Creswell and South Lane School Districts. In Bethel, she worked at Irving Elementary School from 2006 to 2013 as a K-5 reading specialist. She was a literacy TOSA  from 2013 to 2016. She was an administrator in charge of student achievement from 2016 to 2018 and has been assistant principal at Prairie Mountain since then.

Sue Turner has extensive experience as a primary teacher. She has been with Greater Albany since 2015 teaching kindergarten at Oak Elementary School. Prior to coming to Albany, she was a teacher in the North Clackamas School District for 17 years.

Ms. Stephens shared the following message with families:

Families of Meadow Ridge, 

It is with heartfelt words that I write this letter to let you know that as of July 13, I will be leaving the position of Meadow Ridge Principal and beginning a new position as Lafayette Elementary’s principal.  I will miss my work with our school, and I look forward to the challenges this new position has to offer.

GAPS is leaving the school community in wonderful hands!  Christy Gill accepted the position of principal.  She comes to us from the Bethel school district, and is ready to share her talents in leadership.  Sue Turner accepted the position of Assistant Principal.  Sue comes to us from Oak Elementary, where she has taught Kindergarten for the past five years.

Eight years have flown by and I treasure all of the relationships I have made with our families.  I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve you, your children, and this amazing school community.

El 10 de julio, el distrito anunció un cambio en el Liderazgo para la primaria Meadow Ridge.

Christy Gill ha sido contratada como directora en la escuela primaria Meadow Ridge Elementary School, reemplazando a Elisa Stephens, quien ha tomado el puesto en la escuela primaria Lafayette. Además, Sue Turner ha sido contratada como subdirectora en Meadow Ridge.

Online Kindergarten registration is now available for the 2020-21 school year. Please visit our Kindergarten Registration page for more information and to get started.

Per Board policy, a student will be admitted to kindergarten at the school in their boundary area if his/her fifth birthday occurs on or before September 1, or is a kindergarten student transferring from a public school in another district.
